Comments: | This tag is based on the Met-ta Prayer in Buddhist tradition. The Met-ta Prayer is designed to intentionalize good wishes and a sense of benevolence for oneself and others. The idea is to wish the good things we all naturally desire; first for oneself, then for a close loved one, then radiating out by degrees until one has encompassed all sentient beings everywhere. Note 1: Met-ta is the Pali version of Maitri (friendship) in Sanskrit. It has been translated as “loving-kindness”. I find “loving-kindness” a little clunky and prefer just plain friendship :) Note 2: Metta and Meta are not pronounced the same. Hence “Met-ta”, to make sure you pronounce the two Ts (as in “hot tub”) which is my attempt to correct the transliteration :) |
